Couldn’t sleep at ALL last night – as Mom said, probably due to the excitement of starting this new journey. The Dogs, the family, people in the apartment, the moon, the stars, and everything under them woke me up last night.
Finally got “up” at around 11am to have lunch with the family – Arby’s. Gotta love it. Spent the rest of the afternoon finalizing packing the car and typing up loose ends. Hit the road shortly after 2pm. Drove to New Orleans.
Ahhh, New Orleans. I love that city. I parked down by Decatur street and just got out and walked around. Watched the sun set behind the St. Louis Cathedral in Jackson Square. SOOO many people were in the French Quarter today. It is the first time since Katrina that it has felt like it did before Katrina – if that makes sense. Such a vibrant city.
I ate at Cafe Maspero, just a couple blocks down from the Square. Couldn’t decide between Red Beans and Rice and Jambalaya, so I had both. $8. Can’t beat that.
I then walked around the square, looked at some of the art galleries that were still open. Wandered around Bourbon Street and listened to some of the more traditional acts – which seem to be increasing in number. Lots of “preservation” societies have gotten really popular, it seems.
Went by Harrah’s, as I usually do, to play my obligatory $5 in the 25 cent blackjack. Left with $55. The Blackjack was good to me today.
Finally went by Cafe Du Monde to get a Chicory Cafe Au Lait and some Beignets. I’m currently sitting in hotel room finishing them off.
All in all, a great day, and a safe trip so far. Tomorrow, plan to spent a few hours in Houston, then head on to Austin late in the afternoon to meet up with Chau to get a key to the apartment!!! Woo!
